Pedro Orlando Molano Pérez is a Colombian architect and public administrator with extensive experience in urban development, infrastructure management, and public sector leadership. He is currently serving as the General Director of Bogotá’s Urban Development Institute (IDU), a position he has held since January 2024.
Throughout his professional career, Molano Pérez has been recognized for his expertise in urban planning, project management, and the execution of large-scale public infrastructure initiatives. His academic background in architecture, combined with specialized training in public management, has enabled him to contribute effectively to the development and modernization of urban environments in Colombia.
As Director of the IDU, he oversees strategic projects related to mobility, road infrastructure, public space improvement, and urban transformation in Bogotá. His leadership focuses on promoting sustainable urban development, improving citizens’ quality of life, and strengthening institutional efficiency in the execution of public works.
Before joining the IDU, he served as Director of Colombia’s National Natural Parks, Special Administrative Unit, where he managed the areas under the responsibility of National Natural Parks and coordinate the National System of Protected Areas (SINAP) of Colombia, with the purpose of conserving the biological and cultural diversity of the country, contributing to sustainable development and a healthy environment. Among hismain achievements are the increase to more than 30% of the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems before 2030 and,the adoption of the National Policy for the System of Protected Zones.
Molano also served as Director of Bogotá’s District Institute of Recreation and Sport (IDRD), where he led the development and execution of more than 1,000 parks across the city. His work at the IDRD played a significant role in improving public spaces, promoting recreation and sports, and enhancing the quality of life for Bogotá’s residents.
